Licensing Explained
Microsoft Select Licenses
Microsoft Select is a perpetual license program. You purchase the license and own it in perpetuity. You may purchase Software Assurance benefits (SA) with a Select License which will give you upgrade rights and certain support rights for a defined period of time on the Select license. You can continue to buy just the Software Assurance benefit for any Select license to keep those benefits going.
Microsoft EES
Microsoft EES is a annuity licensing program, where you pay a certain amount every year for the right to use the license. If you stop paying, you have to stop using the licenses (buyout options exist).
Legacy Licensing Programs
The OETC used to offer School Agreements, Campus Agreements and the Hybrid Agreement. All of these agreements have been superseded by the Microsoft EES agreement which offers more value at a lower cost than the previous agreements.
