Adobe K–12 Enterprise Agreement Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Adobe K–12 Enterprise Agreement (EA)?
The Adobe K–12 EA is a three-year term-based licensing program that helps K–12 school districts minimize the cost and complexity of providing Adobe software across an entire district.
How does the Adobe K–12 EA work?
The Adobe K–12 EA enables school districts to provide Adobe software to all administrators, teachers, staff, and students within their district on institutionally owned computers. Customers pay an annual fee, and as long as the term of the agreement is valid, they may continue using the Adobe software they have licensed under the agreement. Districts cannot cover only part of a district or just their student population. Pricing is based on the number of full-time equivalent (FTE) units covered and applies to district-owned computers only. Adobe applications for Introductory/Intermediate Video Editing and Professional Video Production are also available on a per-license basis.
What products are available through the Adobe K–12 EA?
Adobe K–12 EA customers can choose between two bundles of the latest versions of the following Adobe solutions for both Windows® and Mac OS. The bundles are determined by FTE count. Optional add-ons are calculated based on the number of licenses.

Can I add FTEs during my license period?
Districts can add FTEs at each anniversary, within the three-year contract. New licensing fees will be determined based on the initial FTE count plus any FTEs added for the upcoming year. Any new FTEs will be taken into account at the anniversary renewal. For example, if the FTE count at a district is 14,400 at the signing of an EA but increases to 15,000 by the first anniversary, fees for the second year will be based on the new FTE total of 15,000. The district will not have to pay extra fees for the portion of the first year during which the new FTEs were in place. Decreases in the FTE count will not reduce your Adobe K–12 EA license fee.
How do I calculate licensing fees based on FTE units?
Fees are based on the number of FTE units covered. FTEs are calculated as follows:
- All full-time faculty and staff are considered as one unit
- Part-time faculty are considered one-third of a unit
- Part-time staff are considered one-half of a unit
Full time faculty + (Part time faculty / 3) + Full-time staff + (Part-time staff / 2) = Total FTE
For example, if you have 4,000 full-time faculty, 3,000 part-time faculty, 2,000 full-time staff, and 1,000 part-time staff, the FTE would be calculated as follows: 4,000 + (3000 ÷ 3) + 2,000 + (1000 ÷ 2) = 7,500 FTEs
If the total FTE count ends with a fractional component, the total number of FTEs is rounded to the next unit. This means that 1001⁄2 FTE units would round to 101 units for contract purposes.
All employees who work more than 200 hours a year must be included in the FTE count; nonknowledge workers such as maintenance personnel, bus drivers, cleaning staff, and cafeteria workers may be excluded from the faculty/staff FTE count.
Is there a minimum FTE requirement to participate in the Adobe K–12 EA?
The minimum FTE requirement is 300. However, school districts with fewer than 300 FTE can still participate at the 300 FTE level. For example, if school district A has 257 FTEs, it can participate in the program, but its annual fees will be calculated based on the minimum 300 FTE level.
Do I have to license my entire district?
Yes. The program benefit is to license the entire district population—administrators, teachers, staff and students—but only for use on institutionally owned computers.
Are there individuals who are not covered under the Adobe K–12 EA?
Yes. The following do not qualify as FTEs:
- Correspondence and distance learning students
- Alumni
- Workers who have been hired on a contractual basis for services either on or off campus (individuals not
- directly employed by the district)
- Retired faculty and staff
- Visitors
How can my district easily distribute licensed products to faculty, staff, and students?
Districts are responsible for internal product distribution and serial number deployment. Media is available in the form of a DVD set for each solution covered under the K–12 EA to assist in the distribution of software. Districts will also have the ability to receive the products via Electronic Software Delivery (ESD).
How does my district get media for the products in the EA?
Districts can choose to receive media in DVD sets for a fee or via an ESD download at no cost through the Adobe Licensing Web Site (LWS).
What languages are available in the EA?
Adobe solutions are available in Universal English (UE) and French Canadian. Additional languages may be added in future releases of the EA program.
Can my district copy Adobe K–12 EA licensed products?
Adobe grants districts the license to use the product(s) as set forth in the End-User License Agreements (EULAs) accompanying such product(s) throughout their district, as may be modified by the EA agreement. The EULAs are available on Adobe.com (under “Product License Agreements”). If there is a conflict between the terms of the EA and the EULA, then the EA terms shall take precedence.
What is the policy for upgrades and downgrades under the Adobe K–12 EA?
Upgrades are included in the Adobe K–12 EA as part of the licensing fee, which includes maintenance. Downgrades are possible one version earlier than the most current version, but they are available only in ESD.
Is maintenance included with the Adobe K–12 EA?
Yes. The Adobe K–12 EA license fee includes maintenance.
Where do I find more information about the Adobe Certified Associate program?
The Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) program allows users to demonstrate proficiency in Adobe digital communication tools. For more information on the program, please visit Certificate programs, certifications | Adobe.
Are districts responsible for tracking downloads of products?
Districts are responsible for tracking the download and installation of all video products and reporting back to Adobe with the number of each product downloaded during the annual term.
Does the Adobe K–12 EA replace any existing Adobe Volume Licensing programs?
No. Districts can continue any existing CLP agreements for products not covered under the Adobe K–12 EA. In addition, districts without CLP agreements may also purchase products under the regular TLP agreement.
Is it possible to convert term licenses to perpetual licenses in the Adobe K–12 EA?
No, perpetual licenses are not covered in the Adobe K–12 EA.
